‘Do you have anything to declare?’ What can I take out of Livigno without risking customs fines or criminal penalties?

When leaving Livigno, you pass through customs because the area has a special duty-free status. This means certain goods can be purchased under favourable tax conditions, but allowances and limits must be respected when you leave.

For travellers leaving by road, the general allowance for goods in personal luggage is €300 per person, reduced to €150 for children under 15. Separate quantity limits apply to some categories, particularly tobacco products and alcoholic drinks.

The allowance is personal. The value of a single item cannot be split between several people to bring it within their individual limits. Travelling as a family or group therefore does not automatically allow you to combine allowances for one item whose value exceeds the individual threshold.
